After the Lasik eye surgery, most patients’ eye vision can keep stable after a months’ healing. A few patients may need more time, and six months have been reported as the longest. During this healing period, patients may suffer from different kinds of uncomfortable feeling of the eyes. A slight burning feeling is very common amongst the patient. Because the flap is cut during the Lasik surgery, and after the surgery is over it is just replaced back and it needs a period of time to heal itself. Besides, many patients may also be troubled frequently with seeing foreign object. This is because there may be some small pieces of tissue left in the eye during the step of making the flap and reshaping the lens by laser. Patients with laser vision correction surgery may also suffer from disturbing visual side effects, such as halos, double vision (ghost images), contrast sensitivity loss (foggy vision), light sensitivity and glare. Some patients may get a mild pain which should be treated by taking pills like aspirin. The white part of the eye is easy to be red or get blood shot which will go away in a few days.

In the healing process, you should pay more attention to protect your eyes. There are several things should be avoided for the first 2 to 4 weeks after the surgery. First of all, remember do not rub your eye at any condition, so does any heavy contacts. The flap needs at lest two weeks healing itself completely. If it is out of the right place, further surgery will be needed to replace the flap. It is better for a patient to stay at home to avoid high winds or windy conditions. If you feel dry of your eyes, watering your eyes will be helpful in the healing process. But remember swimming should be avoided during the first 4 weeks after Lasik eye surgery. For ladies, it is recommended that no makeup should be applied, not only those being used near the eyes.

Corrective lenses like glasses and contacts can be wonderful temporary solutions for those of us with imperfect eyesight. While these corrective lenses are great for helping us see what might normally just be a blur, we still often dream of a life without them. Each year, more and more people with vision imperfections flock to laser eye centers seeking the services of ophthalmologists and laser eye surgeons. Most have already given a lot of thought to laser eye surgery, but have never considered the multiple options until they receive their first consultation. Many patients have trouble deciding between PRK and Lasik surgery.

PRK, also known as photorefractive keratectomy, is a common laser eye surgery that is used to treat refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. PRK has been performed throughout the world since the early 1980s, and has helped many people achieve 20/20 vision and lessen their dependence on corrective lenses. This surgery remains a popular choice for laser eye surgery patients. During the procedure, a cool beam laser burns away the outer layer of the cornea, the epithelium. A second cool beam laser then reshapes the cornea to remove any imperfections that have been negatively impacting vision. After the surgery, protective contact “bandages” are put in place to protect the eyes while the epithelium regenerates. This process can take up to a week, and patients can experience their improved vision after a week or more of recovery.
